I have Haruni otn right now as my easy lace project. The majority of Haruni is a simple leaf lace motif (same one that the Kiri shawl uses). It's not as complicated as you think! The leaf edge will be a bit more work, but by the time you get there you will have much more confidence...so go for it! Wish I could be there :-)

Re: Vote for Lace Class

Thanks Deborah!
Next week I'll be announcing our lace classes...there was so much interest that we're going to do two separate classes. I have been wanting to learn lace for a while but as a novice knitter, I am too frightened. (though since all of my knitting has holes, one would think I already know lace).

As someone looking at these patterns and thinking about working up the nerve to learn, they each look intimidating (but frankly Haruni looks impossible!) My vote would be multnomah because it looks less intimidating.

I am so glad we have a Yarn shop!!!!!!!!
Deborah

Re: Vote for Lace Class

I think the Haruni is the most "lacy look" although seems to be much more than "beginner" The Ishbel is a gorgeous pattern of lace, and will become very individual, when each knitter chooses their own choice of color and skein of yarn. My vote will have to be for the Ishbel, and I'll look forward to knitting the Haruni in ;the future. All 3 are beautiful, and will be a treasure when finished.

Re: Vote for Lace Class

My vote is for the Haruni---What a beautiful way to show off the yarn, and a lovely shawl pin. I think I'll hand dye some Merino and Silk. I like it the best but it scares the dickens out of me. With fear and trembling I vote for it but I'm still not sure about being able to take the class.

Re: Vote for Lace Class

I don't want to do self-promotion (er... that's what I'm actually doing...) but I design a pattern PERFECT for beginner (at lace knitting).
My pattern is Dandy Neckerchief on Ravelry.
Check it out!

Re: Vote for Lace Class

I vote for Multnomah b/c you can't go wrong with Feather and fan stitch. It's really easy for a new lace knitter to remember the repeats, and it's lovely. Plus, they can keep knitting they lace as long as they want before moving on to the garter stitch part. My second vote is for Haruni, b/c is will teach them more. There are multiple charts, more than one lace stitch and they will have to pay attention to their rows more closely. Also it will give them something gorgeous that they can really feel accomplished about. :)

Re: Vote for Lace Class

These are all on my to-do list. I'll probably do Haruni first, but I'm not sure.

Another good one is Forest Canopy. It was my first foray into lace shawls, and it was a really good pattern. Easy enough that I wasn't discouraged and could understand how it "worked", but complex enough to be challenging and yield a really nice end product.

Re: Vote for Lace Class

Thanks Regenia!

Isn't Haruni awesome?

________________________________

Re: Vote for Lace Class

I just added haruni to my queue, so of these its my pick. I'm worried though that some folks may not like the bunch of stockinette required to get the fun part of these. I'd jump right in with something challenging and small like swallowtail. Once you've done nupps, you feel like you can do anything.

Re: Happy Spring!

So cute!
